Some 170 exhibits spanning 170 years: Kunsthalle Zürich developed a significant, unique exhibition that introduces the principles of cultural exchange and aims to support it in the future. Re-Orientations. Europe and the Islamic Arts, 1851 to the Present shows how Islamic art and decorative styles have influenced European art since the »Orient« hype in the 19th century until today. 150 years ago, Europeans associated it primarily with exoticism, eroticism, and mystical stories. These prejudices continue to shape many views. With this exhibition, the Kunsthaus Zürich dispels them and shows how important context is for understanding a work of art. The presentation runs from March 24 to July 16.

In addition to numerous paintings such as those by Henriette Browne and Karl Gerstner, drawings, watercolors, photographs, sculptures, textiles, ceramics and glass, as well as video art will be on display. Curator Dr. Sandra Gianfreda focuses primarily on unknown artists, such as those from Spain, Tunisia, Egypt and India. Gianfreda developed the concept of the exhibition with an academic advisory board that attaches importance to critically examining the treatment of cultural heritage.Art.Salon

Dive deeper into the art world

Till Schermer

Is our personality just an illusion? Till Schermer's paintings open up a new perspective on the fragmented human psyche. In intense, sometimes disturbing images, the artist presents the protagonists of our mental society - perhaps the start of an adventure for one's own mind.
