Over 130 artists will be exhibiting at Independent New York 2024, a fairly young but already firmly established fair at the center of the art world. The first edition took place in 2010 on a small scale and was aimed at insiders of the scene. In the meantime, the field has opened up and the number of exhibiting artists has grown, but the fair has retained its special character. It is still regarded as one of the spearheads of contemporary art, not least because it is based on the invitation principle. This means that artists cannot apply in the traditional way; 39 artists are taking part for the first time in the current edition. Many collectors therefore mark the fair in their calendars, this year from May 9 to 12.

The Independent is considered one of the most popular New York fairs in the art world due to its quality. Numerous young art stars such as Oscar Murillo, Nicolas Party and Issy Wood have made their New York exhibition debut at the Independent in recent years. Since 2022, the Independent 20th Century has complemented the program by presenting and trading works of art from important movements from the 20th century.Art.Salon

It was one of the most moving decades in the history of the United Kingdom: the 1980s, characterized by strikes, protests and AIDS. Photographers documented this period and in some cases became political activists themselves through their images. The exhibition The 80s: Photographing Britain opens on November 21 at the Tate Britain in London.
