Edo period, 19 th century
each a woodblock print, surimono, embellished with metallic pigments and embossing, from the series Warriors as the Six Famous Poets (Buke Rokkasen) each signed Gakutei or Gakutei hitsu, privately issued circa 1827, and comprising:
- Ota Dokan
- Gensan mi Yorimasa
- Minamoto no Yorimitsu
- Minamoto no Yoshiie
- Kamakura Udaijin (Minamoto no Sanetomo) - Taira no Tadanori

Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A complete set of six surimono of the series Warriors as the Six Famous Poets (Buke Rokkasen) by Yashima Gakutei was sold in the Fine Japanese Prints auction at Sothebys in London in December 2021. The price achieved of GBP 23,940.00 (€ 28,555.40) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 20,000.00 – 30,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Yashima Gakutei - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Giant black carp in waterweeds, which sold at auction in September last year for USD 81,900.00 (€ 83,716.65).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit A complete set of six surimono of the series Warriors as the Six Famous Poets (Buke Rokkasen) von Yashima Gakutei wurde im Dezember 2021 in der Auktion Fine Japanese Prints bei Sothebys in London versteigert. Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 23.940,00 (€ 28.555,40) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 20.000,00 – 30.000,00 angegeben worden. Für andere Arbeiten von Yashima Gakutei mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Giant black carp in waterweeds beobachtet, die im September letzten Jahres für USD 81.900,00 (€ 83.716,65) versteigert wurde.
