This artwork by Xia Xiaowan achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in Hong Kong in April 2011. In the Contemporary Asian Art auction, the work How Sad sold for HKD 5,060,000.00 (€ 439,732.81) - well above the upper estimate of HKD 2,800,000.00. This high result makes How Sad the most expensive artwork by Xia Xiaowan that we have observed at auctions so far.
