Auction result misses estimated price range
In March last year a collector was able to acquire the work Tigerlily and Prunus, 1866 by Wu Xizai for USD 1,785.00 (€ 1,609.12). This price was achieved in the auction The Reverend Richard Fabian Collection of Chinese Paintings and Calligraphy, Part V The Online Sale at Bonhams in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Wu Xizai achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Calligraphy In Seal Script in October 2014 with an auction result of HKD 3,776,000.00 (€ 388,750.20).
