Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait of Sir David Falconer, Lord Newton (d.1685), half-length, in a black coat with a white collar by William Robertson was auctioned at Christies in London in March 2009, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 500.00 – 800.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 400.00 (€ 431.34). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Robertson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of John Falconer, half-length, in an embroidered wastcoat and blue coat, a tricorn hat under his left arm and a staff in his right hand, in a feigned oval and Portrait of Margory Falconer, half-length, in a white dress and bonnet, a puppy in her in March 2009 with an auction result of GBP 5,000.00 (€ 5,
Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Portrait of John Falconer, half-length, in an embroidered wastcoat and blue coat, a tricorn hat under his left arm and a staff in his right hand, in a feigned oval and Portrait of Margory Falconer, half-length, in a white dress and bonnet, a puppy in her im März 2009 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 5.000,00 (€ 5.3
