In December 2016 Sothebys in London held the auction Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite & British Impressionist Art, which included the work Poverty And Wealth by William Powell Frith. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 175,000.00 (€ 204,603.39), 46% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Powell Frith - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Derby Day: the 'first study' for the celebrated painting, which sold at auction in December 2011 for GBP 505,250.00 (€ 605,108.24).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 46 % übertroffen
Im Dezember 2016 führte Sothebys in London die Auktion Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite & British Impressionist Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit Poverty And Wealth von William Powell Frith zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 175.000,00 (€ 204.603,39) und damit 46% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von William Powell Frith mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit The Derby Day: the 'first study' for the celebrated painting beobachtet, die im Dezember 2011 für GBP 505.250,00 (€ 605.108,24) versteigert wurde.
