Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait Of Dr. Robert Smith by William Mosman was auctioned at Sothebys in London in October 2017, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,875.00 (€ 2,137.87). Admittedly, works by William Mosman have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of Princess Maria Clementina Sobieska (1702-1735), wife of 'The Old Pretender', bust-length, in a gold dress and blue ermine-lined cloak, in a feigned oval in July 2020 with an auction result of GBP 10,625.00 (€ 11,851.38).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Portrait Of Dr. Robert Smith von William Mosman im Oktober 2017 bei Sothebys in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 2.000,00 – 3.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 1.875,00 (€ 2.137,87) den Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von William Mosman auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Portrait of Princess Maria Clementina Sobieska (1702-1735), wife of 'The Old Pretender', bust-length, in a gold dress and blue ermine-lined cloak, in a feigned oval im Juli 2020 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 10.625,00 (€ 11.851,38).
