This artwork by William Langley achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December 2011. In the Christie's Interiors auction, the work A riverside picnic sold for GBP 2,000.00 (€ 2,395.28) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by William Langley; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Highland cattle watering in a mountainous landscape sold at auction in September 2001 with the realized price of GBP 1,880.00 (€ 3,035.40).
