Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by William Kurelek achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in Toronto in November 2012. In the Important Canadian Art auction, the work The Sacrament Of Penance sold for CAD 221,000.00 (€ 171,041.43) - well above the upper estimate of CAD 80,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by William Kurelek; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Wintertime North Of Winnipeg sold at auction in November 2012 with the realized price of CAD 255,500.00 (€ 197,742.47).
