Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by William Joseph Shayer could be acquired at Christies in New York in August 2010 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Christie's Interiors auction, the work Cattle by a river at sunset; and a companion painting changed hands for USD 2,500.00 (€ 1,967.88) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Joseph Shayer achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Going out of Kennels; Moving Off; Casting for Scent; Gone Away; Full Cry; and Nearing the Kill. in December 2000 with an auction result of USD 23,500.00 (€ 25,031.96).
