Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work British The Sporting Life, Scenes Of The Countryside (Two Works) by William Joseph Shayer was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in December 2008, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 25,000.00 – 35,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 20,000.00 (€ 14,368.85). Other works by William Joseph Shayer have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in December 2000 by the work Going out of Kennels; Moving Off; Casting for Scent; Gone Away; Full Cry; and Nearing the Kill. at USD 23,500.00 (€ 25,031.96).
