In May 2012 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Master & British Paintings, which included the work The Merchant Snow Peru Off Dover by William John Huggins. The price achieved of GBP 17,500.00 (€ 21,804.23) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 15,000.00 – 20,000.00. Other works by William John Huggins have already achieved higher auction prices, for example, in April 2011 the work The Opium Ships At Lintin, China, 1824 was auctioned for GBP 37,250.00 (€ 41,949.92).
