Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2017 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Masters, which included the work The Clipper 'Red Rover' Off The China Coast by William John Huggins. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 10,000.00 – 15,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 10,625.00 (€ 12,203.24) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William John Huggins - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Opium Ships At Lintin, China, 1824, which sold at auction in April 2011 for GBP 37,250.00 (€ 41,949.92).
