Auction result well in line with expectations
In October 2007 Christies in London held the auction Important Maritime Art, which included the work A postal packet in two positions, in the Channel off Dover, with the pilot cutter approaching by William John Huggins. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 15,000.00 – 20,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 16,100.00 (€ 23,120.66) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Other works by William John Huggins have already achieved higher auction prices, for example, in April 2011 the work The Opium Ships At Lintin, China, 1824 was auctioned for GBP 37,250.00 (€ 41,949.92).
