Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by William Hounsom Byles could be acquired at Christies in London in May 2003 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Sporting Art auction, the work The Grand National, 1927 changed hands for GBP 3,346.00 (€ 4,661.82) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Hounsom Byles - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Gold Cup, 1923; The 2000 Guineas Stakes, 1923; The 141st renewal of the Oakes Stakes, 1923; The Lincolnshire Handicap, 1923; and The Kempton Park Great Jubilee Handicap, 1923, which sold at auction in June 2002 for GBP 7,050.00 (€ 10,904.75).
