This artwork by William Herbert Dunton achieved an unexpectedly high price at Bonhams in Los Angeles in August 2021. In the Portrait of the WestThe Diane and Sam Stewart Collection auction, the work Delivering the Mail sold for USD 525,312.50 (€ 445,180.08) - well above the upper estimate of USD 250,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by William Herbert Dunton; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Texas of Old sold at auction in May 2008 with the realized price of USD 881,000.00 (€ 566,195.37).
