Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The truant detected by William Hemsley was sold in the BRITISH AND VICTORIAN PICTURES auction at Christies in London in May 2003. The price achieved of GBP 4,230.00 (€ 5,893.45) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Hemsley - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Sunday Morning, which sold at auction in June 2000 for GBP 12,925.00 (€ 20,487.72).
