Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The whaling ships Jane and Harmony off the port of Hull, with the Holy Trinity Church on the waterfront beyond by William Griffin of Hull was auctioned at Christies in London in May 2004. The price achieved of GBP 4,182.50 (€ 6,275.29) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Griffin of Hull - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Merchant shipping and a Mediterranean pinke in close quarters off Gibraltar, which sold at auction in November 2003 for GBP 9,400.00 (€ 13,493.84).

Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 4.182,50 (€ 6.275,29) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 3.000,00 – 5.000,00 angegeben worden.
