Auction result misses estimated price range
In November 2008 a collector was able to acquire the work The Sailor'S Farewell by William Gale for GBP 6,250.00 (€ 7,556.72). This price was achieved in the auction A GREAT BRITISH COLLECTION: The pictures collected by Sir David and Lady Scott, sold to benefit the Finnis Scott Foundation at Sothebys in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 10,000.00 – 15,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Gale achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Die Klagemauer in Jerusalem. 1863. in March 2009 with an auction result of CHF 318,000.00 (€ 210,449.29).
