Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Self portrait, head and shoulders, a sketch; Portrait of the artist's mother, bust-length, in a white shawl, a sketch; Portrait of the artist's father, head and shoulders, in profile, a sketch; and Portrait of the artist's son, head-and-shoulders, a by William Gale was sold in the British and Victorian Pictures auction at Christies in London in November 2002. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 500.00 – 800.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 528.75 (€ 828.00) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Gale achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Die Klagemauer in Jerusalem. 1863. in March 2009 with an auction result of CHF 318,000.00 (€ 210,449.29).
