Despite a disappointment, a good price for William Eric Thorp
When the work Towing out to sea by William Eric Thorp was auctioned at Christies in New York in February 2004, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 2,629.00 (€ 2,113.17). Despite this disappointing result, Towing out to sea is the most expensive artwork by William Eric Thorp that we have observed at auction so far.
