Auction result misses estimated price range
In December 2000 a collector was able to acquire the work The S.S Crystal off the coast by William Edward Norton for USD 4,700.00 (€ 5,006.39). This price was achieved in the auction Maritime at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 5,000.00 – 7,000.00 set by the auction house. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Edward Norton - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A barque under sail and running down Channel, which sold at auction in May 2004 for GBP 10,755.00 (€ 16,136.46).
