Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
The work Three Ceramic Tiles, 1872-1881 by William de Morgan was worth GBP 5,000.00 (€ 5,391.75) to a buyer in March 2009. This price was achieved in the auction The Sunday Sale - Property of the Late Monty Lewis, removed from Hyver Manor & Property of the Late Dr. William Lindsaygordon at Christies in London and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of GBP 1,500.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by William de Morgan; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Perseus and Andromeda sold at auction in February 2003 with the realized price of GBP 4,780.00 (€ 6,978.65).
