Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by William Bennett could be acquired at Christies in London in July 2006 for an unexpectedly low price. In the British and Continental Watercolours auction, the work A Ruined Castle In A Landscape changed hands for GBP 312.00 (€ 456.73) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 500.00 – 800.00. Admittedly, works by William Bennett have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of Robert Bullough, bust-length, wearing a red velvet jacket and white cravat; and Portrait of his wife, Sarah, bust-length, wearing a blue dress with lace borders and two brooches, in a feigned oval in May 2004 with an auction result of GBP 2,987.50 (€ 4,482.35).
