Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Harbour scene at sunset; Harbour scene at moonlight, a pair each 22.5 x 17.1cm (8 7/8 x 6 3/4in). (2) by William Thornley was sold in the The Marine Sale auction at Bonhams in London in April last year. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 1,200.00 – 1,800.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 1,275.00 (€ 1,520.39) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Thornley achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Moonlit Docks; Sunset On The Banks in December 2006 with an auction result of GBP 12,600.00 (€ 18,699.98).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen

(2) von William Thornley wurde im April letzten Jahres in der Auktion The Marine Sale bei Bonhams in London versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 1.200,00 – 1.800,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 1.275,00 (€ 1.520,39) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von William Thornley erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Moonlit Docks; Sunset On The Banks im Dezember 2006 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 12.600,00 (€ 18.699,98).
