This price was achieved in the auction Old Master and 19th Century Drawings including Property from at Christies in New York and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of USD 60,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Willem Pietersz. Buytewech; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A fish market in a Dutch town, with a bridge and houses in the background sold at auction in January 2002 with the realized price of USD 468,000.00 (€ 544,565.98).
