Description
WANG JINGWEI (1883-1944) Calligraphy in Running Script Hanging scroll, ink on paper 97.5 x 36 cm. (38 3 ⁄ 8 x 14 1 ⁄ 8 in.) Inscribed and signed, with two seals of the artist Dedicated to Mengheng (Ho Mang Hang) and Zhongyun NOTE: Hanging scroll made by Rongbaozhai Originally named Wenjie, Ho Mang Hang was born in Zhongshan, Guangdong, and graduated from the Department of Agriculture Economics in Jinling University. Since his mother’s family had been active in the 1911 Revolution, Ho had been acquainted with Wang Jingwei and his family since childhood. In 1939, Ho married Wang Jingwei’s daughter Wang Wenxing (Zhongyun). He left for Hong Kong in 1948 and later took up a position as Laboratory Superintendent in the Botany Department in Hong Kong University. In May last year Christies in Hong Kong held the auction Exquisite Eye: Chinese Paintings Online, which included the work Calligraphy in Running Script by Wang Jingwei. The »bidding war« ended at HKD 126,000.00 (€ 14,958.90), 58% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Wang Jingwei have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Poems Of Shuangzhaolou in May 2019 with an auction result of HKD 1,062,500.00 (€ 121,602.83).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 58 % übertroffen
Im Mai letzten Jahres führte Christies in Hong Kong die Auktion Exquisite Eye: Chinese Paintings Online durch, in der auch die Arbeit Calligraphy in Running Script von Wang Jingwei zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von HKD 126.000,00 (€ 14.958,90) und damit 58% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Wang Jingwei auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Poems Of Shuangzhaolou im Mai 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von HKD 1.062.500,00 (€ 121.602,83).
