In October 2008 Sothebys in Hong Kong held the auction Modern and Contemporary Southeast Asian Paintings, which included the work Heimkehrende Javaner (Javanese Returning Home) by Walter Spies. The »bidding war« ended at HKD 9,380,000.00 (€ 954,123.96), 25% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Walter Spies - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Blick Von Der Höhe (A View From The Heights), which sold at auction in October 2013 for HKD 31,480,000.00 (€ 2,987,288.51).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 25 % übertroffen
Im Oktober 2008 führte Sothebys in Hong Kong die Auktion Modern and Contemporary Southeast Asian Paintings durch, in der auch die Arbeit Heimkehrende Javaner (Javanese Returning Home) von Walter Spies zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von HKD 9.380.000,00 (€ 954.123,96) und damit 25% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Walter Spies mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Blick Von Der Höhe (A View From The Heights) beobachtet, die im Oktober 2013 für HKD 31.480.000,00 (€ 2.987.288,51) versteigert wurde.
