Here, the upper estimate of GBP 12,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 13,750.00 (€ 16,546.28). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Vilhelm Melbye - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Spanish felucca, British warships and other shipping in the Mediterranean off Gibraltar, which sold at auction in May 2012 for GBP 43,250.00 (€ 53,887.60).
