Auction result well in line with expectations

The price achieved of GBP 12,500.00 (€ 14,925.33) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 10,000.00 – 15,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Vilhelm Melbye - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Spanish felucca, British warships and other shipping in the Mediterranean off Gibraltar, which sold at auction in May 2012 for GBP 43,250.00 (€ 53,887.60).
