In April 2009 Sothebys in New York held the auction Russian Art, which included the work A Pair Of Russian Bronzes: Turk Creeping Up On A Sleeping Sentry And Soldier Surprises A Turk by Vasily Grachev. The »bidding war« ended at USD 25,000.00 (€ 18,876.47), 67% above the upper estimate. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Vasily Grachev; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A Bronze Group Of A Mounted Cossack With Hounds sold at auction in April 2008 with the realized price of USD 46,000.00 (€ 29,547.79).
