Auction result misses estimated price range
In March last year a collector was able to acquire the work The Actors Sawamura Gennosuke, Sawamura Tozo and Arashi Kanjuro by Utagawa Toyokuni for USD 3,800.00 (€ 3,425.58). This price was achieved in the auction Japanese and Korean Art Including the Collection of David and Nayda Utterberg at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 4,000.00 – 6,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Utagawa Toyokuni achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Edo Period (1615-1868), Early 19Th Century in September 2021 with an auction result of USD 44,062.50 (€ 38,060.38).
