Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Ehon imayo sugata (Picture book of modern fashion) by Utagawa Toyokuni was sold in the Japanese and Korean Art auction at Christies in New York in March this year. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 8,000.00 – 12,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 8,820.00 (€ 8,112.58) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Utagawa Toyokuni have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Edo Period (1615-1868), Early 19Th Century in September 2021 with an auction result of USD 44,062.50 (€ 38,060.38).
