UTAGAWA TOYOKUNI (1769-1825) A group of surimono prints of Danjuro Woodblock print surimono , from a series of prints of the actors Ichikawa Danjuro I-VII, embellished with metallic pigments, each signed Toyokuni hitsu , circa 1820s, comprising: 1) Genso Saigyu Danjuro (The First Danjuro, Saigyu) 2) Nidaime Dai Hakuen Danjuro (The Second Danjuro, Great Hakuen) 3) Yondaime Kiba Danjuro (The Fourth Danjuro, Kiba) Shikishiban surimono : 1) & 3): 7 1 ⁄ 8 x 6 7 ⁄ 8 in. (18.1 x 17.5 cm.) 2): 7 7 ⁄ 8 x 7 1 ⁄ 8 in. (20 x 18.1 cm.)

It achieved a price of USD 6,048.00 (€ 6,182.15), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 51%. Admittedly, works by Utagawa Toyokuni have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Edo Period (1615-1868), Early 19Th Century in September 2021 with an auction result of USD 44,062.50 (€ 38,060.38).

Die Arbeit A Group Of Surimono Prints Of Danjuro von Utagawa Toyokuni kam im September letzten Jahres bei Christies in New York zur Auktion. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von USD 6.048,00 (€ 6.182,15) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 51%. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Utagawa Toyokuni auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Edo Period (1615-1868), Early 19Th Century im September 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 44.062,50 (€ 38.060,38).
