A top price for Utagawa Kuninaga - as previously expected
In March 2003 Christies in New York held the auction AN IMPORTANT COLLECTION OF JAPANESE PRINTS, which included the work Shimpan Oranda uki-e Ajiashu Maurirya-o keibo (Newly published Dutch perspective picture: The Tomb of King Mausolus, Asia) by Utagawa Kuninaga. The price achieved of USD 5,975.00 (€ 5,481.65) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 5,000.00 – 7,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Shimpan Oranda uki-e Ajiashu Maurirya-o keibo (Newly published Dutch perspective picture: The Tomb of King Mausolus, Asia) is the most expensive artwork by Utagawa Kuninaga that we have observed at auctions so far.
