A top price for Utagawa Hiroshige
The work Tokaido gojusan tsugi no uchi (The fifty-three stations of the Tokaido) by Utagawa Hiroshige was sold in the Japanese and Korean Art auction at Christies in New York in September 2002. Here, the upper estimate of USD 200,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for USD 207,500.00 (€ 210,041.50). With this result, Tokaido gojusan tsugi no uchi (The fifty-three stations of the Tokaido) is even the most expensive work of art by Utagawa Hiroshige that we have observed at auctions so far.
