Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2021 Sothebys in London held the auction Fine Japanese Prints, which included the work The Seven Hot Springs of Hakone in a Single View (Hakone shichiyu ichiran) by Utagawa Hiroshige II. The price achieved of GBP 3,780.00 (€ 4,508.75) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 3,500.00 – 4,500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Utagawa Hiroshige II achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Album comprenant 62 estampes de la série Shokoku meisho hyakkei (les cent vues célèbres des provinces) in June 2007 with an auction result of EUR 45,600.00.
