Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
The work Fujiwara Yasumasa gekka roteki zu (Fujiwara Yasumasa plays the flute by moonlight) by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi was worth USD 47,880.00 (€ 44,039.74) to a buyer in March this year. This price was achieved in the auction Japanese and Korean Art at Christies in New York and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of USD 15,000.00 many times over. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Tsuki junidai (Twelve aspects of the moon), which sold at auction in September 2007 for USD 241,000.00 (€ 169,491.53).
