This artwork by Toshusai Sharaku achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in March last year. In the Japanese and Korean Art Including the Collection of David and Nayda Utterberg auction, the work The actor Matsumoto Yonesaburo as the courtesan Kewaizaka no Shosho, Actually Shinobu, the Younger Daughter of Matsushita Mikinoshin sold for USD 441,000.00 (€ 397,548.00) - well above the upper estimate of USD 250,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Toshusai Sharaku; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Portrait en buste (okubi-e) de l'acteur Morita Kan'ya VIII dans le rôle de Uguisu no Jirôsaku, le porteur de palanquin, sur fond micacé gris, dans la pièce Katakiuchi Noriaibanashi, une sélection de contes de revanche, donnée le 5e mois de l'an sold at auction in May 2018 with the realized price of EUR 616,600.00.
