In May 2008 Sothebys in New York held the auction Contemporary Art Evening Auction, which included the work Great American Nude No. 48 by Tom Wesselmann. The »bidding war« ended at USD 10,681,000.00 (€ 6,864,395.89), 34% above the upper estimate. With this result, Great American Nude No. 48 is even the most expensive work of art by Tom Wesselmann that we have observed at auctions so far.
