Despite a disappointment, a good price for Thomas Wilmer Dewing
When the work The White Birch by Thomas Wilmer Dewing was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in May 2016, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 2,000,000.00 – 3,000,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 1,810,000.00 (€ 1,625,505.16). Despite this disappointing result, The White Birch is the most expensive artwork by Thomas Wilmer Dewing that we have observed at auction so far.
