Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Mercury of London, a merchantman and other shipping offshore; Two frigates in the Channel off Dover, a pair each 53.3 x 76.5cm (21 x 30 1/8in). (2) by Thomas Whitcombe was sold in the The Marine Sale auction at Bonhams in London in October last year. The price achieved of GBP 3,570.00 (€ 4,159.01) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Whitcombe achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A view of St. Helier, Jersey, with Elizabeth Castle beyond in October 2007 with an auction result of GBP 132,500.00 (€ 190,278.72).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit The Mercury of London, a merchantman and other shipping offshore; Two frigates in the Channel off Dover, a pair each 53.3 x 76.5cm (21 x 30 1/8in).
