Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In May 2021 Sothebys in New York held the auction Master Paintings, which included the work Engagement Between Hms Amelia And French Frigate L'Arethuse, Off The Isles Of Loss, 1813 by Thomas Whitcombe. Here, the upper estimate of USD 8,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for USD 8,190.00 (€ 6,716.42). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Whitcombe achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A view of St. Helier, Jersey, with Elizabeth Castle beyond in October 2007 with an auction result of GBP 132,500.00 (€ 190,278.72).
