Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2018 Sothebys in New York held the auction Master Paintings, which included the work The East Indiaman, 'Duke Of Buccleuch,' July 2Nd 1797 by Thomas Whitcombe. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 21,250.00 (€ 18,209.08) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Whitcombe achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A view of St. Helier, Jersey, with Elizabeth Castle beyond in October 2007 with an auction result of GBP 132,500.00 (€ 190,278.72).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Mai 2018 führte Sothebys in New York die Auktion Master Paintings durch, in der auch die Arbeit The East Indiaman, 'Duke Of Buccleuch,' July 2Nd 1797 von Thomas Whitcombe zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 20.000,00 – 30.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 21.250,00 (€ 18.209,08) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Thomas Whitcombe erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit A view of St. Helier, Jersey, with Elizabeth Castle beyond im Oktober 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 132.500,00 (€ 190.278,72).
