Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Battle Of The Saints, 12 April 1782; The Victory Of Admiral Sir George Rodney'S Flagship 'The Formidable' Against The French Flagship 'Ville De Paris' by Thomas Whitcombe was sold in the Old Masters Day Sale auction at Sothebys in London in July 2018. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 22,500.00 (€ 25,227.45) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Thomas Whitcombe have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A view of St. Helier, Jersey, with Elizabeth Castle beyond in October 2007 with an auction result of GBP 132,500.00 (€ 190,278.72).

Die Arbeit The Battle Of The Saints, 12 April 1782; The Victory Of Admiral Sir George Rodney'S Flagship 'The Formidable' Against The French Flagship 'Ville De Paris' von Thomas Whitcombe wurde im Juli 2018 in der Auktion Old Masters Day Sale bei Sothebys in London versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 20.000,00 – 30.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 22.500,00 (€ 25.227,45) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen.
