Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A British Man Of War Before The Rock Of Gibraltar by Thomas Whitcombe was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in January 2017, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 17,500.00 (€ 16,212.71). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Whitcombe achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A view of St. Helier, Jersey, with Elizabeth Castle beyond in October 2007 with an auction result of GBP 132,500.00 (€ 190,278.72).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit A British Man Of War Before The Rock Of Gibraltar von Thomas Whitcombe im Januar 2017 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 20.000,00 – 30.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 17.500,00 (€ 16.212,71) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Thomas Whitcombe erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit A view of St. Helier, Jersey, with Elizabeth Castle beyond im Oktober 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 132.500,00 (€ 190.278,72).
