Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2017 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Masters, which included the work A British Frigate And An Armed Cutter, Patrolling Off The French Coast, Circa 1804 by Thomas Whitcombe. The price achieved of GBP 6,875.00 (€ 7,896.22) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 6,000.00 – 8,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Whitcombe achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A view of St. Helier, Jersey, with Elizabeth Castle beyond in October 2007 with an auction result of GBP 132,500.00 (€ 190,278.72).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Mai 2017 führte Sothebys in London die Auktion Old Masters durch, in der auch die Arbeit A British Frigate And An Armed Cutter, Patrolling Off The French Coast, Circa 1804 von Thomas Whitcombe zur Versteigerung kam. Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 6.875,00 (€ 7.896,22) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 6.000,00 – 8.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Thomas Whitcombe erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit A view of St. Helier, Jersey, with Elizabeth Castle beyond im Oktober 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 132.500,00 (€ 190.278,72).
