Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work White Abbey Near Limerick And Figures By A Stream: Two Gouaches by Thomas Walmsley was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in June 2008, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 6,000.00 – 9,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 5,625.00 (€ 3,571.88). Other works by Thomas Walmsley have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in May 2001 by the work The Dargle in Flood at GBP 3,055.00 (€ 5,121.78).
