Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Ships of war manoeuvring for the attack on Aden, 17 January 1839; and Preparing for the attack on Aden, 18 January 1839 by Thomas Sewell Robins was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2016, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 1,500.00 – 2,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,250.00 (€ 1,461.45). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Sewell Robins achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Studies of the cutter yacht Cygnet, one showing her beating Vision at the Southampton Regatta in 1848; the other with Cygnet winning the Queen's Cup at Cowes in 1849, a pair each 54 x 76.8cm (21 1/4 x 30 1/4in). (2) in October last year with an auction result of GBP 49,440.00 (€ 57,597.05).
Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Studies of the cutter yacht Cygnet, one showing her beating Vision at the Southampton Regatta in 1848; the other with Cygnet winning the Queen's Cup at Cowes in 1849, a pair each 54 x 76.8cm (21 1/4 x 30 1/4in).
